Reviews...

"Heavily influenced by The Beatles’ best work, tinyHUGE takes that as their base and adds in touches of country and rockabilly, creating something really likeable. All the instruments interspersed into the songs gives each one a unique feel, which is a blessing and a curse for this CD. While the songs themselves are all great, there’s no flow from one to another. Their vocalist is great at keeping the songs, on the whole, upbeat and moving. “Junior”, a nice short pop number, is a great example of this band’s strengths, like the vocal hook, strong backbeat, and the icing on the cake of the horns solo. I also love the guitar work in “Way Down (To New Orleans)”, with it’s overdriven blues licks. Overall, this is one great, likeable band that is better than most of the other bands that try to meld this many influences into something." -Kevin Rodrigues www.thealternativenews.com 11/03

"Tuneful, well-crafted songs, many in an early-'70s post-Beatles melodic mode, but there's nothing retro about eccentric but heartrending gems like "Dad Lost His Mind," or the zany, careering recitative "Junior," both definite keepers. Goofy romps like "My Crowd" and the Creedence-like incantation "I Wanna See You" are also hugely entertaining. Fans of T. Rex and Leon Russell will find a lot to like here. The spartan but crafty production is a model of less-is-more style economy, though the vocalist sometimes sings beyond his range, as on the otherwise exemplary ballad 'Watercolors'."

(Francis DiMenno) THE NOISE 4/03

Metronome April 2002 - TinyHUGE reflects a musical side that skirts the boundaries of rock, jazz, country and pop. With that said, how do you define the sound of tinyHUGE? Well, you don’t. You just enjoy the lush, well played arrangements that feature robust guitar work, precision rhythm tracks and satisfying vocals as you would a new Steely Dan album. Did I say Steely Dan? It’s not that there are any musical similarities between tinyHUGE and Steely Dan, it’s just that you can’t grasp exactly what it is that they do. All you know is that you enjoy it, and in the end, that’s all that really counts! Fabulous. -Doug Sloan

The Noise March 2002 - I fully admit this review was half-written before slappin’ it on, because usually these things are exactly what they seem, and this one had SLAM written all over it. Bad name and album title, guys with GAP clothes and facial hair and baseball hats standing there smiling in the woods. Song titles like “Time’s Slippin Away,” That Girl Was Fine,””Pretty Poison,” “Hold On,””Loser’s Blues,”and “Pretty Red Dress”. A weird intro letter that says”We’ll spare you the hype”(which they do) and says, if you want to contact them further, to enter their name into any search engine(?!?). Not exactly a great bunch of ways to sell yourselves. What’s really f*%#d is that I like the damn thing. It’s corny as all hell, but also catchy, relaxing and totally unpretentious. Definitely not for the young’uns, it’s fairly laid back, with a distinct ‘70’s AM-radio feel and a hint of Southern twang. One of those bands that definitely sounds like the guys were all friends first. Maybe not. Whatever, it works perfectly for what it is, as limited an audience as that may find in this day and age. Meanwhile, I personally appreciate being thrown the swerve, and wish ‘em all the best. -Joe Coughlin
